Auli

Auli's 529-meter vertical and compact skiable area will likely feel limiting if you're committing to a full 4-month season. With just 105 days of typical snow coverage, you're looking at a relatively short window. The terrain itself, while beginner-friendly, doesn't offer the variety or challenge that keeps experienced riders engaged over months of repetition. The mountain functions primarily as a training ground for Indian national teams and military units rather than a commercial resort. This means you won't find the marked trail networks, lift infrastructure, or terrain parks that make smaller resorts elsewhere still feel fresh after 16 weeks. If you're hoping to progress significantly as a skier or rider, or if you need consistent daily riding to stay sane through a season, Auli's limited scope is a real consideration.

Auli itself is essentially a training facility at 2,702 meters with minimal infrastructure. There's no town to speak of, no grocery stores, and no everyday amenities within the resort. The nearest proper town is Joshimath, 13 kilometers away. It has basic markets but won't feel like a real community hub. Rent and food costs are low by international standards, but that's partly because there's nowhere to spend money and little to do outside skiing. Getting there requires flying into Delhi (280 kilometers away) and then a long drive into Uttarakhand. Transport links are poor, and you'll likely need to arrange private transport or rely on infrequent local buses. If you're someone who needs a functioning town with cafes, shops, and social infrastructure, Auli will feel isolating.

Auli doesn't operate as a commercial ski resort with seasonal employment programs. There are no advertised hospitality, ski school, or lift jobs for international workers, and no staff accommodation provided as part of a job package. Employment is limited to occasional guiding, maintenance, or government tourism roles. None of these are structured around a ski season or come with the typical perks like free lodging, lift passes, or community housing. There is no established seasonaire community here. The mountain is used by Indian athletes, military personnel, and domestic tourists, not the mix of international workers you'd find at resorts in Europe, Australia, or North America. If you're looking to do a season in a functioning resort with jobs, accommodation, and a social scene built around seasonal staff, Auli isn't that place. It's a training ground, not a seasonaire destination.
