Arabba

Arabba won't keep you endlessly entertained on the mountain if you're after huge vertical or sprawling skiable terrain. The 1,667m vertical drop and access to the wider Dolomiti Superski network means you're not confined to one small hill, but Arabba itself is compact; think quality over quantity. With 216cm of average annual snowfall and a 128-day season, you'll have decent snow reliability through winter, though you're not in an Alpine powder belt. The real question is whether you'll get bored: if you're an advanced skier who loves steep, technical runs and can explore the linked Dolomites resorts (Corvara, Selva, Canazei), four months is manageable; if you're intermediate or prefer cruising varied terrain, you might feel the limitation after 8–10 weeks.

Living in Arabba means accepting a quiet, small-village existence rather than a bustling resort town. Groceries average €60 per week, which is reasonable for the Italian Alps, but Arabba itself has only scattered shops and bars; everyday errands require travel to a larger town. The nearest real services and supermarkets are in Corvara (about 10km away), and the closest airport is Innsbruck (roughly 150km) or Venice (200km+), both requiring a drive or shuttle. Rent isn't cheap for the region, and while the village has accommodation, dedicated staff housing isn't reliably available or well-documented, so you may need to source a private apartment or negotiate with employers. If you're looking for a lively town with nightlife, restaurants, and social infrastructure, Arabba will feel isolating; if you want a peaceful base where you ski hard and keep a tight circle, it works.

The seasonaire scene here is small and tight-knit rather than a large, transient party crowd. Jobs typically centre on ski schools, hospitality, and lift operations within the Dolomiti Superski system, though positions are fewer than at bigger resorts; you'll need to apply early and often have a connection or employer lined up. The vibe is relaxed and focused on skiing rather than après-ski socializing, with modest nightlife at spots like Bar Peter and Mister X. Arabba suits experienced skiers or intermediates keen to improve on steeper terrain; if you're a beginner learning to ski, you'll find the slopes challenging and may progress faster at gentler nearby resorts like Corvara or Colfosco. Come here if you want serious skiing, a close-knit crew, and quiet winters; don't come expecting a big seasonal-worker community or an easy entry point to skiing.
