Poiana Brasov

The 120cm average annual snowfall and 117-day season are respectable for the Carpathians, and January–February usually deliver decent conditions, but this isn't a mountain you'll be exploring new terrain on come March. This proximity to a real town is a major draw compared to Alpine resorts where you're stuck in a purpose-built village. The nearest international airport is Bucharest (OTP), 158km away, which is a 2.5–3 hour drive but manageable for arrival and departure.

The seasonal community here revolves around ski instruction and hospitality, with English-speaking instructors earning roughly €10–15 per hour (€1,500–2,000 monthly for full-time work) and positions also available in hotels, restaurants, and lift operations. Staff accommodation isn't always provided directly by the resort, but employers like ski schools typically help arrange apartments in Brașov, and the commute is straightforward. The vibe is intimate and low-key. You'll meet a mix of local Eastern Europeans and international workers, particularly English speakers, and the guest base is predominantly families rather than hard-partying skiers.
