Les Carroz

Les Carroz sits at the lower end of the vertical spectrum, with 1380m of drop across a 134-day season, which means you're looking at a compact mountain that you'll likely know intimately by week eight. The terrain spans beginner through advanced, including a freeride zone at Corbalanche and a snow park, so there's enough variety to keep you progressing or entertained, but this isn't a sprawling resort where you'll discover new runs every week. Snowfall is reliable enough to sustain the season length, but the relatively modest base elevation (1100m) means you're vulnerable to thaw cycles in spring, and you won't have the same margin for error as higher resorts. If you're the type who needs constant novelty and thousands of vertical meters to stay engaged, you might feel the ceiling by month four; if you're happy to master a smaller mountain and focus on technique or community, you'll be fine.

Living in Les Carroz is genuinely low-cost by Alpine standards, with groceries averaging €60 per week, and the village itself has everyday amenities rather than being a purpose-built resort bubble. Rent isn't clearly documented for seasonal workers, but accommodation exists throughout the village in apartments and chalets; you'll need to hunt rather than rely on a staff-housing scheme. The nearest proper town is Cluses in the valley below, reachable by bus or shuttle, so you're not isolated if you need a supermarket, a doctor, or a night out that doesn't revolve around the mountain. Geneva airport is the main gateway (roughly 90 minutes away), and the A40 motorway access means transport links are straightforward, not a logistical nightmare.

Job availability leans toward hospitality and catering, with kitchen assistant roles documented, and ski-school and lift-maintenance work also in the mix, though none of these are guaranteed or heavily advertised. The seasonaire community is small and village-scaled rather than party-focused; you'll get a quieter, more local social scene than you'd find in Chamonix or Val d'Isère, which suits some people and bores others. Staff nationalities aren't well documented, so expect a typical Alpine mix without knowing the exact breakdown. If you're a beginner or intermediate skier or boarder, Les Carroz is genuinely welcoming, as the mountain is designed for progression, but if you're already strong and craving expert terrain and a buzzing worker scene, you might find it underwhelming.
