The terrain suits intermediate to advanced skiers who want solid variety without feeling lost; beginners will find runs but won't feel coddled. The network's real draw is the cross-border skiing itself—you're moving between countries on a single pass, which adds novelty to a long season. There's no single legendary run that defines the area the way some resorts have, but the high elevation and consistent snowfall mean the skiing stays good when lower resorts are slushing out.

THE TOWNS

Ischgl sits on the Austrian side and is the social hub of the network. It's a proper party town—nightlife rated 10/10—with the infrastructure and energy that comes with that reputation. Rent runs around EUR 1,500 per month and wages are tight at EUR 1,450, so you'll break even or lose money unless you're picking up extra shifts or side work; beer is EUR 7.50. If you're here for the season, you're here for the scene as much as the skiing.

Samnaun is the Swiss alternative, quieter and more expensive but with significantly better wage economics. Rent is CHF 1,500 (roughly equivalent to Ischgl in euros) but seasonaire salaries sit around CHF 2,600—nearly double Ischgl's rate—which makes the math work if you're trying to actually save money. Nightlife is a 6/10, so you're trading the party for financial breathing room. Beer costs CHF 7.50, matching Ischgl's price point. If you're trying to actually save money over a four-month season, Samnaun's wage advantage is substantial enough to matter; you'll have a quieter evening scene but your bank account will thank you. Both towns have identical terrain access and snow reliability, so the difference is purely about what kind of season you want to live.

GETTING AROUND

The nearest major airport is Innsbruck, roughly 90 minutes away by car or shuttle. For everyday shopping and services beyond what the villages offer, you're looking at a drive to a larger town, but both Ischgl and Samnaun have enough local amenities to function as a base for three to six months without constant trips out.
