Jungfrau Ski Region

The skiing

The Jungfrau region spans a connected network of three lift-linked villages with a shared pass, offering roughly 1,400–2,100m of vertical depending on which sector you're skiing. Terrain splits clearly between beginner-friendly slopes, concentrated around Allmendhubel and lower-elevation zones, and intermediate-to-advanced descents that reward solid technique and mountain sense. The region's reliable snowfall, averaging 330–340cm annually, sustains a season stretching nearly five months, which is genuinely long enough to dial in your skiing without the repetition fatigue that hits smaller areas. This is not a sprawling mega-resort; it's a tight, varied network best suited to intermediate and advanced skiers who want quality over quantity and don't mind vertical repeats on the same runs.

The Eiger Trail descent is the region's signature run, a long, scenic traverse that connects the high terrain and has become a pilgrimage line for seasonaires. Beyond that, the area's real draw is backcountry access and the mix of technical couloirs and open-field touring that sits just outside the lift network. If you're carrying a beacon and know the terrain, there's genuine freeride potential here.

The towns

Grindelwald is the largest and most social of the three, with the highest nightlife rating (4.5/10) and the most obvious seasonaire infrastructure. It's the hub for work, bars, and casual après; however, rent sits at CHF 2,500/month and wages hover around CHF 2,400/month, which can be tight margins if you're not careful. If you want to be around other people working a season, this is where you'll find them.

is the smallest and quietest, perched high and car-free, with a nightlife rating of just 2.5/10. It's genuinely peaceful, which appeals to skiers who want to decompress after work; however, it also means fewer jobs, fewer social options, and a tighter seasonaire community. Rent and wages match Grindelwald, so the trade-off is solitude, not savings.

sits between the two in both vibe and terrain gnarliness (4.3/10 vs. Grindelwald's 7/10 and 's 6.4/10). It's slightly quieter than Grindelwald but less isolated than , making it a reasonable middle ground if you want some social life without the full resort buzz. Like the others, rent is CHF 2,500/month and wages are CHF 2,400/month.

Which town should you pick

If you're chasing the most social season and don't mind a busier village, base yourself in Grindelwald; it has the best nightlife, the most job availability, and the easiest access to other seasonaires. If you're an advanced skier who wants serious backcountry access and don't mind isolation, 's high elevation and gnarlier terrain (6.4/10) make it worth the trade-off in amenities. If you're intermediate-to-advanced and want a quieter vibe than Grindelwald without going full hermit, offers a calmer baseline while keeping you connected to the network. All three charge the same rent and offer similar wages, so your choice really comes down to whether you want community, solitude, or something in between.

Getting around

The nearest major airport is Zurich, roughly 2.5 hours away by train. Interlaken is the closest proper town for groceries, laundry, and everyday errands; it's 30–45 minutes by rail from any of the three villages and has everything you'll need for a season. All three towns are car-free or car-light, so expect to rely on trains, buses, and your legs; that's by design and part of the appeal.
