Adelboden-Lenk

The skiing

Adelboden-Lenk is a 210 km connected network straddling the Bernese Oberland, built for intermediate and upper-intermediate skiers who want reliable snow and consistent terrain without the hype or crowds of the Valais mega-resorts. Both towns sit at similar elevations with modest vertical (around 1,260 to 1,290 metres), which means the skiing won't surprise you with dramatic exposure or endless descents, but the 291 cm average annual snowfall keeps conditions stable across a long 120-day season. The terrain is solidly groomed and well-maintained, with a mix of reds and blues that reward smooth technique and line choice over pure steeps. There's no single signature run or World Cup pedigree here; this is a working skier's mountain, not a destination resort.

The towns

Adelboden is the slightly livelier of the two, with a 3.5/10 nightlife rating that translates to a few bars and restaurants but nothing resembling après-ski culture. It's a real village with year-round residents, modest accommodation costs around CHF 1,400/month, and seasonal work averaging CHF 2,600/month. A beer runs about CHF 8.50. The skiing itself is challenging enough (6.9/10) to keep advanced intermediates engaged, with decent backcountry access (6.5/10) if you're willing to skin or hike.

is quieter and more family-oriented, with similar rent and wages to but an even lower nightlife presence. The terrain ratings are identical (6.9/10 for challenging skiing, 6.5/10 for beginner-friendliness), so the skiing experience is comparable; you're choosing between towns, not between two radically different mountains. feels more like a retreat than a base camp, which suits some seasonaires and bores others.

Which town should you pick

If you want the most social environment and the best chance of finding bar culture after work, base yourself in ; it's the area's de facto hub. If you're on a tight budget and value peace and quiet over nightlife, either town works equally well, since rent and wages are identical; edges ahead only if you actively dislike crowds and want to disappear into a smaller village. If you're an advanced intermediate chasing consistent snow and reliable grooming without the pressure of steep terrain, both towns deliver the same mountain experience, so pick based on accommodation availability and personal vibe rather than skiing differences.

Getting around

The nearest major airport is Bern (about 90 km away), with Geneva a longer option. The towns themselves are small; you'll want to travel to Thun or Interlaken for serious grocery shopping, banking, or medical services beyond basic clinic care. Public transport is reliable, so a car is helpful but not essential if you're comfortable with buses and trains for off-mountain errands.
